I couldn't remember the name of the island so I asked my husband. He said he had no idea until I reminded him it was where I pushed him into a sea snake while we were snorkeling so I could get away. Oh that was Green Island. True Love right there.
The plan is not to take a photo a day but to edit and post one a day in an effort to improve my photography and especially my skills at post processing! In the spirit of this I will be showing the before and after photos.

TO begin!

Aiming for a dreamy vintage feel:

Its Pumpkin soup with some home grown mung bean sprouts. (Yeah I was a little low on the soup, I decided to photograph it AFTER I had eaten it for dinner so this is leftovers!)
Pumpkin soup is one of my favourite easy to make meals and it seems a good time to share the recipe.

Ingredients
Approx. 250g Diced peeled pumpkin (I used butternut but you can use any type)
1 large or two small onions, diced
1 or 2 garlic cloves, finely diced
Vegetable or chicken stock
1 Tbsp Olive oil
Optional
Cumin- a pinch or to taste
Oregano- a pinch or to taste
Rosemary- a pinch or to taste
Cream or evaporated milk

Directions
Heat the oil in a large saucepan.
Add the onion and garlic and cook until soft.
Add the diced pumpkin and stir.
Add enough stock to just cover the pumpkin and onion.
If you are adding the herbs, add now.
Simmer uncovered until the pumpkin is soft.
Blend with a stick blender.
Your delicious pumpkin soup is now ready!
For a really creamy soup stir in some evaporated milk or cream just before serving.

This soup is also really yum with some pumpkin replaced with carrot.

I was caught by the beautiful clothing and styling, and as I can't speak German and couldn't understand anything on any of the channels this was enough to keep me tuned. (I have a feeling if I could have understood more of the most-likely-cheesy lines I would not have watched as much as I did!) The German translation of the title is The Mystery of the Moon Princess, which I like better than The Secret of Moonacre and which is different again to the book it was loosely based on -The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge.
After seeing the movie but not knowing quite what was going on in it I was quite curious to read the book. I found a lot of praise for the book including a recommendation by J. K Rowling. Perhaps it was this praise and high expectations which made me disappointed with it. I found it wearying with its description of perfection and its inconsistent characters. Though I will admit that if I had read it when I was 13 and with no expectations I would probably have loved it. In contrast to the novel the movie received poor reviews, but I have to love it for its costumes and sets. The embroidered bag is just lovely.
Here's some eye candy shots for you...
It's definitely a unique way to bury someone. I'm thinking it will be a more eco friendly way too as there is no paint or varnish involved and no metal parts. And it would be totally biodegradable.
As it is winter here in Germany, I've been dreaming of warm felt hats with a bit more style than my humble beanie. Here are a few of my favourite from Etsy.

I received an awesome parcel in the post the other day from my lovely sister. It was full of late Christmas presents including this awesome handmade soap dish. My sister is into pottery and has recently got her first kiln which is super exciting! It means she has started to fire (cook and finish off) all the clay creations she has been making for a quite a while now. She knows I like to make soap and so a soap dish is quite appropriate for me. I actually made a heap of little heart shaped soaps for gifts at her wedding.

You can buy fireworks in Germany. I hadn’t realised this until I was idly flipping through some junk mail last week. “Really?” my husband asked, his ears almost pricking up. “Where, when?” were his next questions. There is a three day period after Christmas and before New Years (Silverster in Deutsche) where fireworks suddenly appear in almost any shop you care to walk past. Having just last month moved to the beautiful city of Bonn, I’d never been anywhere where fireworks are legal so I was pretty excited and my husband incredibly so! We stocked up on some rockets and crackers as soon as they hit the shops. The next day we decided we needed more and bought basically double what we had the first day thus tripling our stock. I thought we had a lot. But after seeing the fireworks frenzy on NYE we hardly had any!

We started to hear crackers being set off the first night after they were available, the next night we heard even more and had bets as to how many we would hear on our walk into town for dinner (I won!). Then, on New Years Eve as soon as it was dark, it started for real. You could hear loud cracks, echoes and wizzing noises coming from every direction, see faint lights sparking in the distance and smell the sharp smokey scent of sulphur in the air. We let our stash off in a park near our house, as we weren’t sure where we were allowed to, and my husband is nothing but cautious. It turns out we were the only people there and we had a ball! It was a lot of fun as well as being eerily beautiful in the dark park, seeing the bursts of colour and the light from streetlamps shining hazily through the smoke. After we had exhausted our stash we caught the last train into Bonn Zentrum before midnight. Walking along we saw where everyone else seemed to have let their fireworks off, right in the streets and even in the underground! It all culminated in a frenzy of fireworks around midnight. It was truly amazing. We had a view over the river Rheine with fireworks going on all around us. Some let off literally metres away from us. I had never seen so many fireworks in one place before. What a fabulous way to bring in a new year!

I think this should also apply to what you keep.
And for the things you have, keep in mind these questions
Do you use it or appreciate it often?
Do you have a place to keep it?
If not then you should consider giving it away!

Edmund Dulac was born in Toulouse and studied in France before moving to England. His timing was very lucky as he was there for the beginning of the reign of the illustrated gift book. He was commissioned to provide the art work for a number of books such as Stories from Hans Anderson, The Tempest, The Bells and other poems by Edgar Allan Poe among a great many others. He was at his artistic height during the Golden Age of Illustration.
I love the subject matter he has covered, Fairy tales, Arabian nights, poetry...
I'm a big Florence fan and I have to say I remember being a little disappointed when I heard this on the radio for the first time. I don't know why now though as I love it and have driven my fella a little crazy with it on repeat. There's a clip of her saying she loves big sounds and this song has just that; big sounds, powerful vocals.

It really swells and flows and What the Water Gave Me is definitely my song of the moment.

My sister has just has a beautiful little girl named Grace and to celebrate I thought I would try my hand at embroidering her some personalised little singlets. I quite enjoy embroidery but as you can probably tell from the photo's I'm still quite a novice. I took out some library books on embroidering and the lovely lady at my local library told me about a friend who had just finished an epic piece that had taken about seven years to complete!! These little things took me about 15 mins total, at a guess. The videos by Mary Corbet at Needle n Thread are really useful when you're learning new stitches (like me). I used french knots for the flowers and stem stitch for the G and the stems (how appropriate).
Normal name Wally de Backer is just about to release his third album. He was born in Belgium but grew up and lives in Australia and I can't wait til his next album comes out on the 19th August.
The song of the moment that I can't get enough of is his latest single- Somebody that I used to know.

Kimbra features in it and in an interview on the radio he said he wanted a strong female voice to come into the song's story and surprise the listener. I had heard the song before the interview and it totally did this for me. Hope you enjoy it as much as me.
Being a budding nature photographer myself I was really inspired to take some more photos after seeing her work. It also gave me an appreciation of her amaazing bird shots which I know require a lot of patience. She has post edited a lot of her photos to great effect giving some a real dreamy sunshine and lollies kind of feel with these bright pastel colours. She also has some amazing black and white photos.

Cathy Delanssay is a french illustrator who has a number of children's books. I came across her work and immediately fell in love with the colour and texture of her fantasy laden illustraions which have quite a distinctive style. If you read french you can follow her on her blog La Goutte de Rosee. Here are some examples of her work.
But I forgot to show the cake!

Wedding Cake

It had a chocolate top layer and a Heavenly raspberry almond orange base layer. Sooo delicious. I thought I would also tell you a bit more about the interesting venue in which it was held. The venue was Injidup Wave House in Yalingup. Its a lovely house though a bit crazy and has a not-thought-through feeling in its design. The views are to die for.

The cave/cliff had mirror balls attached to it which I imagine you'll either love or hate.

Sometimes I wish I could have my wedding over again. (With the same man though!) It seems a shame that you only really get to have one and if like in my case you organised most of it when you've never organised anything like that before there is a lot of stuff you learn when its too late. This venue was fabulous for a small intimate wedding. It had a very relaxed air which was continued with the music and food. The music was a live celtic band which played lovely music at a level which encouraged dancing but still allowed for conversation. The food was gourmet pizza with salad and lasagna.

Her family is very crafty and it was a beautiful relaxed affair.
Check out the string lights and message leaves made by the bridesmaids. The string balls had rope fairy lights incorporated into them and looked very effective in the evening. I believe they were made by covering a balloon in petroleum jelly/vaseline and gluing the string and fairy lights around the balloon before deflating it and sliding it out. They experimented with painting the balls silver but ended up liking the natural cream string colour better. It is not very noticeable in the picture but the lights were powered by small AA battery packs.

The 'messeage leaves' formed part of the table decorations as well as being a beautiful way for guests to leave a message (no pun intended ;-) for the newlyweds. Guest wrote on the back and then hung them on a selection of branches.
